If you’ve been curious about microcurrent therapy but aren’t quite sure what happens when you walk through the door, you’re not alone.
Trying something new—especially when you’re dealing with pain or an injury—can bring a lot of questions.
What will happen when I arrive? Will the treatment hurt? What do I need to wear? How long will I be there? And what exactly are you going to do?
I want your first visit at ProVida Studio to feel comfortable, relaxed, and informative. So let’s walk through what you can expect.
Before Your First Appointment
Before you arrive, you’ll receive an intake and health history form that can be completed online. You’ll also complete the necessary consent and authorization forms.
A provider’s order is required before treatment can begin. If you don’t already have an order and most people do not, I work with a nurse practitioner who can conduct a telephonic good-faith examination and, when appropriate, provide the necessary diagnosis and treatment order. This service is included in the cost of your initial evaluation.
My goal is to make this process as simple as possible and take care of these details before we begin treatment.
Your First Visit Begins with a Conversation

When you walk through the door, we’re not going to immediately put you on a treatment table. Well, not for the treatment anyway.
We’re going to talk.
I’ll start with a simple question:
“What brought you in today?”
From there, we’ll talk about what’s bothering you, where you’re experiencing discomfort, how long you’ve been dealing with it, and how it is affecting your everyday life.
I’ll also want to know about your history. What have you tried before? Did it help or make things worse? Have you had an injury? Surgery? Have you seen another provider?
There isn’t a right or wrong answer.
I just want to understand your story.
As a registered nurse, I’ve spent years listening to people talk about their health concerns and helping them navigate their care. I’ve learned that two people can have a very similar complaint and have completely different experiences.
That’s why I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach.
We’ll Look at the Area Being Treated
After we’ve talked, I’ll take a look at the area we’ll be working with.
This isn’t a traditional physical examination. I’m primarily looking at the area we’re going to treat and determining how we’ll approach the session.
If there is significant swelling, for example, I may take a measurement before treatment. That gives us something objective to compare with later and allows us to see whether the swelling has changed over the course of treatment. If you have a wound, I may measure it as well, to document healing.
What Happens During the Acuscope and Myopulse Treatment?
This is where things become individualized.
There isn’t one single way to receive an Acuscope and Myopulse treatment.
A sprained ankle, a painful knee, and low-back discomfort are all very different situations, so the treatment approach will be different as well.
I use different protocols and accessories depending on the area being treated and the reason you’re coming in.
Depending on your needs, you may be:
- Sitting comfortably in a chair
- Lying on the treatment table
- Sitting upright on the table with your back supported
- Positioned with a wedge underneath your knees
- Positioned in another way that allows me to comfortably access the area being treated
Your comfort is important, and I’ll explain what we’re doing as we go.
What About Clothing?
You don’t have to worry about completely changing into a gown or feeling exposed.
I do need access to the areas being treated, which may include the low back, buttocks, upper back, neck, or shoulder area. Depending on the location, we can usually work around clothing or make small adjustments so that the necessary area is accessible while keeping you as comfortable and covered as possible. If you know your upper back is being treatment, please don’t wear racer back bras or tanks.
If you’re unsure what to wear, comfortable, loose-fitting clothing is usually a good choice. Maybe even a bathing suit top if you feel inclined.
And if you’re ever uncomfortable, just tell me. We can always make adjustments.
Both the Acuscope and Myopulse Are Used
During treatment, I use both the Acuscope and Myopulse.
The Acuscope and Myopulse have different functions, and using them together allows me to approach your treatment from different angles and allows you to have a complete treatment.
The equipment is gentle, and most people find the treatment comfortable. You may notice a mild sensation, but it should not be an uncomfortable experience.
I’ll be with you throughout the session and explain what I’m doing.
Your First Visit Takes a Little Time
Your initial appointment can take anywhere from 1 hour to 1.5 hours.
That may sound like a long time compared with a typical appointment, but your first visit includes more than the actual treatment.
We’re getting to know each other, reviewing your history, discussing your concerns and goals, completing the evaluation, explaining the therapy, and providing education before and after your treatment.
Follow-up visits are generally shorter, typically 45 minutes to an hour, depending on your individual needs and the areas being treated.
I don’t want you to feel rushed through the process.
Education Is Part of Your Treatment
One of the things I feel strongly about is education.
My goal isn’t simply to provide a treatment and send you home.
We’ll talk about what you can do before, during, and after your session to support your overall wellness.
You’ll receive information about things such as:
- Staying well hydrated
- Getting adequate rest
- Avoiding alcohol on the day of treatment
- Eating nutritious foods
- Gradually increasing healthy activity when appropriate
- Paying attention to how your body responds following treatment
I also want you to know what you might experience afterward. Some people may notice a mild headache following treatment, for example. Knowing what to expect can make the experience much less concerning.
What Happens After Your Treatment?
Before you leave, we’ll talk about how you’re feeling and answer any questions you may have.
I’ll review any recommendations for the remainder of the day and make sure you understand what to expect between visits.
Follow-up treatment is based on your individual situation rather than a predetermined schedule that is the same for everyone.
The Most Important Part of Your First Visit
You don’t need to know anything about microcurrent therapy before you come to ProVida Studio.
You don’t need to understand how the microcurrent technology works.
You don’t have to know exactly what’s causing your discomfort.
And you certainly don’t need to have all the answers.
That’s what your first visit is for.
My job is to listen, educate, answer your questions, and provide individualized treatment based on your needs and the provider’s order.
My hope is that when you walk through the door, you feel comfortable enough to tell me what’s really going on—and that when you leave, you feel informed about your options and confident about the next step.
Sometimes the First Step Is Simply a Conversation

If you’ve been living with pain or discomfort and are curious about a different approach, you don’t have to know whether microcurrent therapy is right for you before you reach out.
You can simply start with a question.
Let’s talk about what you’re experiencing and see if ProVida Studio may be an appropriate part of your journey toward better function, recovery, and wellness.
Just reach out to me at 615-572-5295 (call or text) if you have any questions. I’d be happy to answer questions to see if you’d like some help
